QXGA mod---FRU compatibility

I just received an IAQX10N and IAQX10S and tried to hook them up today, only to be met with blank screens (no image, no backlight). I double checked against my old monitor (UXGA boe-hydis) after trying the new ones to make sure I didn't break / disconnect anything.

I was wondering perhaps that my inverter (41W1012) or cable (91P6970) are incompatible? Can anyone confirm for me that this is the case? Or are both of the (unused) monitors dead on arrival...

What machine are you trying these screens on?

Oops, it's a T60p. :)

The gpu is a FireGL V5200 and I'm running Arch Linux.

You need to flash the EDID info with one that is pertinent to a T60p LCD, or the laptop will never display anything on the new panel.

There's a thread on QXGA mod on T6x series where this is discussed in detail...

Right.. I hooked up an external monitor so as to flash the EDID info, but the first register was the external monitor's, and the second was empty. I re-ran the i2c-tools command after disconnecting the external to confirm that the first register was empty after unplug. Even if the EDID is incorrect, shouldn't Arch be able to see meaningful (if incorrect) data in the register?

I'm going to try using an ubuntu livecd to rule out driver issues when I get home today...

No, because the screen is not recognized at BIOS level.

You'll be wasting your time. Read through this thread instead:

Good luck.

Thanks for the help so far ajkula66,

After getting an "Error: Write failed" when trying to write to bank 2, I tried bank 3 (bank 1 was the external tv I was using) with the EDID info on thnkwifi's "Installing a QXGA display in a R/T60 or 61". Then I tried it with gordan's EDID from the thread you linked me.

The screen now turns on but seems to be only the vertical lines with both EDIDs. The resolution is set correctly and I can kind of make out e.g. a browser window when resizing it against a dark background. I'll double check tomorrow against the EDIDs for integrity, but I'm pretty sure I entered it correctly. Any thoughts on why it's not coming through quite exactly?

Getting closer, I think :)

Are you using the proper LCD cable and inverter?

I'm not sure, from what I can tell my inverter is equivalent (I have 41W1012), but I couldn't figure out if the cable was correct (91P6970). I've tried googling but came up short wrt qxga compatibility...although the proof is in the pudding, and if its flashed correctly and the monitor works (a reasonable assumption) then perhaps the cable / inverter isn't a match.

I wanted to avoid ordering new parts until I knew I for sure needed them.

Your "old" T60p cable should work with no issues, as should the inverter.

Something else is amiss there.

Hmmm... when I bought this machine it already had Middleton BIOS installed, could that be causing the problem?

BIOS Version 2.27 (79ETE7WW)
Embedded Controller Version 1.07

Middleton never made a BIOS for a T60 or T60p.

I see, I guess the person who sold it to me was mistaken.

Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I flashed and tried the IAQX10S and it worked (using gordan's edid info). Wow is it gorgeous---hard to believe panels of this quality were on the market so long ago. Arch + the Infinality package + this panel = awesome. And to think I already loved this T60p.

The bad news is that the IAQX10N is broken somehow, or mislabeled. D:

Thanks for the guidance along the way. :)

I have never done any EDID-modification on my IAQX10S.
When I replaced an UXGA in my T60 (Intel GPU) the picture was garbled during POST/BIOS, but was recognized by Win 7 and gave a perfect picture.
I didn't bother with EDID then, just wanted to test the screen, but got used to QXGA and never changed the UXGA back.
After I changed motherboard to a T61 (Intel GPU) both BIOS and OS give perfect picture.

Win 8.1, QXGA, Small/100% font size, small icons on desktop and toolbars.
