Solved (1/2 Negative): T61P Frankenpad: Two questions (bluetooth, pci-e-mini-slot)
Hello,
with the extended help of TuuS and RealBlackStuff I managed to prepare two Frankenpads (T60P to T61P/UXGA/LED), one of those is nearly ready and already in use.
Now, two problems I did not manage to solve up to now:
(1) Bluetooth: I had to skip installing a modem (I would not use anyway), but I did Install a bluetooth"card". It does show just a moment at boot (led-signal) but it does not show as part of the system.
Will I have to accept, it is gone or is it just a dead chip?
(2) PCI-E-Mini-Slot für WWAN-Card: I bought a mini-pci-e-card 128GB to install there, but the card is not recognized.
Do I have to swap it for a different kind of card (usb-characteristics versus pci-e-mini-characteristics,
Do I remember the spec right for this slot right, as being usb-style?
Any advice would be appreciated

started with IBM-XT (80186) and AST-Ascentias NB (910N) in the 90ties, relying on Thinkpads (770X, A31Ps) until 2012,
now using an upgraded T60-61P "Frankenpad" (15"UXGA-LED Penryn 8GB 500GB/7200), and an X201/X230T (i7 8/16GB/500GB) Windows10

Modem has nothing to do with Bluetooth on T6x series. If your T60/p had BT to begin with, it should work "out of the box" right now.friedrich-eugen wrote: Now, two problems I did not manage to solve upt to now:

Verify that is enabled in BIOS as well. Lastly, boot a "live" Linux CD and check to see whether BT is "seen" there.
AFAIK, you can't use the WWAN slot for a storage card...(2) PCI-E-Mini-Slot für WWAN-Card: I bought a mini-pci-e-card 128GB to install there, but the card is not recognized.

There is physically no room for a modem in a T601 FrankenPad.
The BT-module is inside the LCD-lid, at the bottom, left of the LCD-cable.
Occasionally these BT-modules can work themselves loose.
You only need to remove the LCD-bezel to access them.
And, as ajkula66 already said, the T60/T61 series does not support a storage card in the WWAN slot.

hello ajkula66, hello RealBlackStuff,
well,
I take it, You're saying if it is not "gone off" the bluetooth-card might be gone. I'll see ...
As for the WWAN Slot: As far as I did deduce from posts in the net there exist two different types of slots, one of them is a pci-e-mini-slot, one looks similar (to me), but is not (WWAN: kind of usb-style-slot).
As far as I found out, at least I thought, there exist ssd-cards to go with each of the two types of slots. Am I wrong?
Thanks for Your swift reply, anyway!!

Yes.friedrich-eugen wrote: As far as I found out, at least I thought, there exist ssd-cards to go with each of the two types of slots. Am I wrong?
You can't use the mini-PCI-e slot that holds the WWAN card for anything else but WLAN, WWAN and HD decoder from what I recall. It will not do anything with a SSD. There's no support on the board or in the BIOS for it.
