hi,
is it possible to still use a T61 with a dead LCD? peeps one time after boot and no activity on the LCD.
according to:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Error_Cod ... Beep_Codes
this means the LCD is dead, although it doesnt specifiy if it is valid for the T61.
i would like to use this as a linux server. no screen required.

Hi newuser, and welcom to thinkpads.com!
Does your T61 have Intel or nvidia graphics? It very well could be that the LCD had quit, and if that's the case there is no reason you cannot continue to use the T61 with an external monitor, or as a headless server.
On the other hand, if it has the infamous defective nvidia GPU chip, it's most likely the chip that has failed, in which case it might be difficult to use at all. Although I've never tried using a broken T61 headless, it might be something to try. Are you able to use RDP, or access you network shares from the T61 as it is right now?

sorry for the late reply.
i did some more testing with it, as stated above the one beep doesnt happen.
only happens when you switch the laptop off with the power button by holding the power key for 5s.
attaching a external monitor shows no picture, even when pressing FN+F7(switch to external screen) repeatedly.
theres no drive insalled, neither harddrive nor optical one.
the power source(working) i use is from a T410, but it is also rated at 20v as written on the laptop. and the connector fits.
removing the ram results in the ram error beep codes described here:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Error_Cod ... Beep_Codes
the light at the top of the lcd that you can turn on for using the keyboard in the dark i guess works, when activated with Fn+Fx.

What's the 7-character model number of that T61, located on the same sticker that holds the serial number and production date on the bottom of the laptop?
