I got a ebay 8744-58u (T60 WS ATI/T7200) for about $46 including shipping, primarily to leave at home due to the widescreen.
Today It came in a loud brown delivery van, and I fired it up somewhat gleefully only to have my joy dashed when I saw a red tinge in two small spots in the lower right portion of the screen.
The red tinge is clearest when against the black BIOS screen or the black win7 startup screen, and is invisible when the screen displays lighter colors.
The seller did not disclose any damage to the screen to me, and my basic question is-
is this reddish tinge on the screen most likely a issue of a failing inverter, failing (wide)screen, or is this some sort of damage to that spot due to rough handling?
I will likely have to spend cash out of pocket to send it back, and except for the red coloration spots when the screen is a very dark color, everything else seems to be OK.
I checked out replacement lids/screens which seem to be around $35, which is not a bad deal, but I was wondering if this is a precursor to a screen failure (soon) and if I might be better off returning this for a refund..
It did not come with a HD, but it did come with 2 x 1gb ram which I guess is worth maybe $20 of the $46 computer cost. If anyone has experienced similar reddish spots on the screen against dark background I would appreciate advice.

When it comes to screen problems, a photo is worth a thousand words, so it would help if you could upload one to show the problem.
Also you may try using sites like http://deadpixelbuddy.com/ to check different backgrounds

Re: T60 8744-58u - screen damage question
Tough question.
Red usually means a bad ccfl, but it could be the inverter, but I have yet to come across a bad inverter from the T6x units.
From what it sounds is that there is damage on the screen as well as a bad backlight. A photo will be better to describe.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
