T61 XP DVD problem

EDIT: And it's fixed. I found the Lenovo page describing how to remove it. I took it out, blew some dust off, put it back in, brought up the Device Manager and it was showing without the yellow warning "!". Put in a DVD and ... we have lift-off!

I'll leave this up as a suggestion to others and a reminder to me: when they tell you to "unplug it and plug it back in" those instructions can refer to more than just cables!

The CD/DVD device is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U10N.

In the Device Manager display (Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware-tab > Device Manager) the DVD device shows this error message:

* Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Clicking on the "Troubleshoot" button brings up a page telling me to take the following steps:

1. go to the Device Manager display
2. uninstall.

I successfully uninstalled the device and it no longer appeared in the Device Manager display.

3. go to the Add Hardware Wizard.

I did that and it auto-magically found the DVD device. Moments later there is a message that "A problem occurred during hardware installation. It may not work"

So I have 2 questions:

1. Is there a place where I can find a new driver and attempt to install that to make the device work?

2. Is there a suggested/recommended replacement drive?

Thanks for any assistance and HAPPY NEW YEAR (even if it isn't for my T61).

I've got a W500 that just clicks when it comes yo reading a disc.
Might as well dust it, or I'll just give it a good ole slap when reading a disc... Worked on 16 bit gaming consoles.
