My T-60 has the Atheros ar5bx6 a/b/g card - I'm thinking of installing a 42t0825 - will the newer card be any better under G or is it's only gain acess to N ? Thanks.

You won't be limited but will have to do the white list on the bios to make it work, once that white list is done you can put anything you want.

You'll gain access to "N" on both bands, the "rest" of the 42T0825 is essentially the very same card that you already have. The card is already whitelisted, no BIOS hack required.

Which router do you have?

Get a (half-size + bracket) Intel 6200N or 6300N wifi card instead.
IMHO they beat even the AR5BXB112.
