hi friends,

I have a Thinkpad T-61 model 7661. This has a 14.1 inch widescreen screen.

My screen recently got damaged as the laptop fell - the screen comes on but the color is green.

Do you know where I can get a replacement screen? Also do you know what is the screen model I need to look for?

It's not clear from your description if the screen got cracked or smashed. Because if it is not and it's just colors are green, it could be that the LCD cable is dislodged. You could take a photo of that "green" screen and we could have a look, before you spend money on a new screen. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. The laptop screen fell with a thud from about 4 feet. It comes on fine. I am posting pictures of some of screen colors as it is now.

It is a widescreen 14.1 inch model

Any help will be appreciated.

Bought a T410 last year described as having a bad LCD and which looked quite a bit like yours.
Opened up the lid and found the ribbon cable connection was not fully seated where it connects to the LCD.
I can see where a drop might do the same.

Reseated it, put a piece of electrical tape across the connector & cable and it worked fine from then on.

As far as I can tell, there is no crack, unless it is hairline thin and I can't spot it. So, this is likely to be a dislodged LCD cable. If you are comfortable in taking the screen apart (no need to disassemble the rest of the laptop) I would say go for it. There's a wealth of information of how to do that on the forum, get the HMM and browse youtube (eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM6nJSfvz6Q)

I will try to fix the LCD screen based on the you tube posts and advice given here. I will let you know what is the outcome, fingers crossed!

Which tools are must haves to go through this exercise? I have some screwdrivers but need to check their size. What else do you recommend?

Thanks for your help. I opened up the laptop (T61 14.1 widescreen) to try and tighten the loose cable if there was one. I took out and reinserted the video cable (the one attached to the thick ribbon at the back) and not sure what I did right or wrong in the process but here is the result:





It seems that the original issue was fixed to some extent as the background is no longer green or pink but now I have this white and black shape covering a lot of the screen.

Have I damaged the laptop more in the process of fixing it? Can this issue be solved with this or a replacement screen?

You're going to need a replacement screen. This one is broken. I thoght I could see cracks in the first pictures you posted, but now they are clearly evident. No doubt about it, there may not be any breaks in the outer surface, but inner layers are definitely broken.

I'd look on Ebay for a replacement T61 as they are cheap if they don't have a hard drive, caddy, and power brick all of which you can pillage from your damaged T61.

That's also an opportunity to upgrade to a 15.4" model. BTW caddy/cover kits for those are only a few dollars.

I have a completely assembled T61 (widescreen) LCD panel I could sell you if interested. Have about 2 or 3 of them actually in different stages of brightness
