On my T60p 2007-WUK, I'm planning to finally upgrade to Win 7 Ultimate with a 120Gb Kingston SSD.

On Kingston's site I get these 3 options. Not sure which I will NEED to buy. Any suggestions?

I'm curious: why Kingston? There are many other SSDs available, with better user ratings than Kingston...

No particular reason. I would appreciate if you have a recommendation for an alternate 128GB SSD. My budget is around $100.

Most of these can be found in the NOS condition and within your budget:

Intel 320 series

Crucial C300

Crucial M4 aka Micron C400

Samsung 830

Samsung 840 Pro

I'm just trying to find the simplest 128gb SSD with least tweaking. Although I have done re-installs on my previous HDDs with XP from a DVD, after much reading I find a lot of tweaking would be necessary. I don't have any data to be transferred (data backed up), so everything will be fresh from scratch.

Any recommendation on the 'best' (read 'easiest to install' ) 128gig SSD I could buy.

Well, if you're installing XP I'll just say "good luck" since I never recommend that OS on a SSD.

Tweaks required are the same regardless of which SSD one chooses.

The drives that I've recommended are the ones that I've personally used in ThinkPads of this era with zero issues.

You're very welcome.

If I'm not mistaken, these still come with a 5-year warranty and for that fact alone are an excellent choice, especially on a machine that is locked to SATA I speeds and all those "my SSD is faster than yours" debate become absolutely meaningless.

I find people over obsess about brand X or Y SSD for an ever changing target of manufacturers. I've always felt comfortable with an on sale SSD in the capacity that I require from Intel, Samsung, Crucial, Kingston, Sandisk, etc. i've owned 1 or 2 SSD from virtually every brand except for the really crappy Transcend. Personally I wouldn't obsess to much. But realize that ALL will die just as some day we too will all move on. Obsess about safe computing, backups, backups and backup some more.

In the past I've bought a few used refurbish OCZ Agility 2 which was known to be notoriously unreliable for $40 US each. That was about a year and a half ago. Since then that 64 GB SSD have been used and thoroughly abused and it's still ticking along. About 3-4 times a day it will go in and out of hibernation. Only thing on there is Win 7 and programs. I have 2 other loaded, ready to go SSDs waiting in the cue for the day that it dies. All my data are in the Ultrabay HDD which is then backed up in triplicate frequently. I've since got my money's worth for the $40 on that drive.

Had I paid $5,000 for the latest, greatest, biggest SSD known to mankind that solves the mysteries of the universe, then I'd be a little more worried.

Having said that, my current personal favourites (which changes frequently) are Sandisk, Crucial, Kingston HyperX, Intel and Samsung.

With any new or newish SSD there's not much of anything at all to do in terms of tweaking. Win 7 and 8 will do everything. Which as it should be as they are born after the dawn of SSDs. There is no one particular brand of SSD that requires any special tweaking over another brand. Nothing that I know of requires you to stand on 1 foot while touching your nose 4.872 times in order to properly get it working during a 87.4% moon.

If you are using Windows XP then stick to a Intel SSD. (because Intel SSD comes with a utility that helps with trim and Garbage collection)
For Windows 7 or 8 you have plenty of choice .
I would stay away from V300 I don't trust the nand in it.
V300 ' s manufactured in 2014 have asynchronous nand.
If you are not doing huge amounts of data transfer then no need to spend on Samsung pro, even a Samsung Evo series will be fine.
Don't give to much importance to the rhetoric of TLC vs MLC of Samsung Evo vs Samsung pro series.

I know this drive is slower than Samsung Evo but Since your machine has only Sata 1 port so hardly makes a difference.

Thanks for all your help and replies but Samsung 840 pro already on the way. In any case I'm thinking a bit ahead so when its time to have a 840 Pro, I'll already have it in hand.

Yes you are right Samsung does come with a very effective and efficient utility.
But Samsung utility does not work too well with Windows XP. Intel utility works flawlessly with Win XP.
But for Windows 7 or 8 Samsung utility is amazing.
