If you could do a close-up, that would make it a lot easier to decipher what one is actually looking at...

Do you have the unit or can you "test" it?
I had a unit that did have lines in its display, but not of that nature.
Applying pressure one of the sides of the LCD made them go away a bit.
Something about the contacts of the LCD becomes loose, it makes lines (in my case, I'm not sure about yours).
Anyways, I retaped the portion that had the lines, it somewhat solved the issue.
In the back of the LCD I placed some cardboard and taped it to apply pressure to it.
Works so far, but I can see it coming back perhaps. Just don't apply too much pressure, it'll stress the LCD which may break it.

If you are buying that unit and will test it afterwards, I'd only pay what the laptop base is worth.
Could salvage the backlight and inverter but still.

External monitor can be used for test. If external monitor shows distorted image - bad NVidia :(

Not a foolproof test.

There are two separate outputs from the GPU: analog for VGA and digital for LCD. One can work perfectly well while the other channel is shot...
