Why is PC2-5600 & PC2-6400 SODIMM RAM so expensive?

Was looking at either 8GB of 667mhz or 800mhz for my T61p. But I can't find a reasonably priced set of PC2-5600 or PC2-6400 4gb chips. On ebay, we're talking $150. Does anyone know why this is / where they're going cheap these days?
A set of 2gb (4gb) PC2-5600 chips is <40$...

I'd say install 4GB and see whether you *really* need more than that.
DDR2 laptop RAM prices have been going up for quite some time now, and as long as the machines that utilize it remain useful, it will stay that way.
DDR3 has gone up as well, since the factories are gearing up for the production of DDR4...

DDR2 was relatively cheap back when they were mainstream. After DDR3 came out they got progressively more and more expensive.

Sucks... to get 4GB of ram for a ThinkPad, two 2GB DDR2 RAM costs about $50 while two 2GB DDR3 costs about $30 if you're lucky for both.
Heck its $80 if you want to get 2 4GB DDR3 modules... A great deal compared to the DDR2 counterpart.
Cheaper ram is the only reason why I'd want a T400 or T/W500 over a widescreen T61.

Lol, at the bottom it was something like €75 for 2*8 GB DDR3. I wish now I updated my W520 to 32GB back then.
Not because of gearing towards DDR4, but also accidents, like the fire in the Hynix factory.
