Cant get dual monitor to work

#1 Post by btimoth » Sun Apr 27, 2014 3:10 pm

I have a Thinkpad T60 with the docking station 2504-10U. I'm running windows 7. The monitor connected to the VGA port works fine. However I cant get the monitor connected to the DVI port to work. I can swap monitors and same issue so I know the monitors work fine. I use the DVI cable on another system it works fine. When I go into the display setup my system only recognizes 1 monitor. I just recently purchased both the laptop and docking station used off the internet. Any ideas or suggestions on what I can do to get both ports to work?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. :D

To get two external monitors to work, you have to turn the laptop LCD off.

What T60 and what monitors? And are you trying to run with the Thinkpad LCD enabled as well?

btimoth is right: only 2 screens at a time work.

If you have the version with integrated graphics, you only get single link DVI on the dock (so no 2560x1600 for example).

How do you turn off the LCD screen on the laptop. I thought it was the FN+F7 but that doesnt do it. Also when you say "turn off" does closing the laptop while its docked constitute as turning the LCD off.

At the same place where you align the screens and set resolution you have an option to enable a screen or not if using multiple. Definitely remove the 'x' there for the internal LCD.

I only have the option for 1 monitor/display. Nothing about an internal LCD if i have it docked or undocked.

Make the external display the primary display first. After that you should be able to disable the display.

Well I only get one display option

Display: 1. ThinkPad Display 1680x1050 on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

Even when the Laptop LCD screen is blank and the external monitor(vga) is active.

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter? Sounds like the proper video driver is not installed.

Try installing the correct driver (ATI or Intel) from here:
