Middleton BIOS help T61

#1 Post by burns334 » Tue May 06, 2014 1:11 pm

I download the Middleton BIOS, Dual-IDA_SATA II_Whitelist_SLIC21_Thermal_Sensing_Error_ThinkPad_T61_T61p_BIOS_(2.29-1.08).rar and unpacked it and I see it has WinPhlash.EXE and WINUPTP.exe in the folder. Can either of these .exe's be used? and if so what is the name of the BIOS file you are flashing?

... did you take the time to read the "READ_ME!!!.txt" (inclued in the .RAR you downloaded) before asking here on the forum?

Johan, I did, and it doesn't say anything about the bios file. There is a flash.bat, do you use that with either utility?

That is not the READ_ME!!!.txt file.
READ_ME!!!.txt wrote:This is Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS.

Changelog:

- Disabled whitelist check.
- Enabled SATA II full speed.
- Added SLIC 2.1 table.
- Removed "Thermal sensing error" boot message (Penryn CPUs).
- Added dual-IDA support.

Version 2.29-1.08
BIOS: 2.29 / ECP: 1.08

Supported ThinkPad systems:

- R61 (14.1 inch widescreen models with IEEE 1394)
- R61i (14.1 inch widescreen models with IEEE 1394)
- T61/T61p

Note: You can choose "BIOS update + CTRL-FN swap" version of this BIOS if you like CTRL-FN swap.

Updating the BIOS:

1) Run WINUPTP.EXE as administrator.
2) Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen.
3) After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'.
Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer.

There is no BIOS update for T61/T61p which you can flash under 64-bit Windows. Lenovo recommends the following:
"If Windows Vista or 7 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD ISO format of this BIOS update".

Bootable CD-image is included in this package.

Important note: When you boot from this CD, BIOS update will start automatically.

Pay attention that there are two ISO images (#1 and #2) for the CTRL-FN swap version. Use "#1.iso" first.
If the CTRL-FN swap works properly after applying ISO #1, then everything is OK.
In case ISO #1 flash is successfully completed but the CTRL-FN swap doesn't work, you have to use ISO #2.

jdrou's post was correct. If you are looking for fault, I'd look in the mirror first and stop there. You did not read the "READ_ME.TXT" within the compressed file. That was what he told you. He never said that the link itself did not point o Middleton's BIOS.

Now I've got 2 of you guys all over me. There is no "READ_ME.TXT file within the compressed file, I've looked a half dozen times now. There is a README.TXT but it talks about a start up screen and jdrou states "This is Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS". Gosh, love to blame myself, I'm wrong all the time but I'm just confused.

The file you need to read is called READ_ME!!!.txt and it is in the root directory of the compressed archive. In the BIOS update -> 32-bit folder there is also a file called README.TXT. This is not the file that gives flashing instructions but it talks about changing the start-up screen.

All, I found it in the downloads folder with lots of other stuff. Funny no where in the readme does it say it is the Middleton bios.

Well... didn't the guy who made the BIOS didn't even own a ThinkPad?
So good, no one needed to know what the file was called. :P

Guess I should have made it a bit clearer that the !!! was actually part of the filename and not me shouting.:)

jdrou, No problem, I found it. Sometimes things just are not as easy as they should be. Then when you open the read_me!!! it it says, " this is a Lenovo thinkpad bios", I was expecting something like " this is the Middleton bios for Lenovo thinkpads", just trying to be careful with the flash, if you know what I mean.
