Connecting a DVI Monitor to T60 via Advanced Dock

#1 Post by Thinkpads4Life » Wed May 28, 2014 4:45 pm

Hi. Quick and simple Question this time! Is it possible to connect a monitor to a T60 with a DVI cable through the Advanced Dock's built in DVI port.

The monitor in question is a HannsG JC199D 20" monitor.

Yes.

What you cannot do is use a DVI to VGA adapter and connect to a monitor's VGA input. The Advanced dock had a DVI-D port. (no alanlog outputs) If your monitor is 1920xx1200 or lower, you do not need a DVI cable with the middle 6 pins.

I had a super problem with this when I recently hooked my T61 (Intel graphics) w/ Adv Dock to an older Samsung 204B (a 4:3 lcd).
I tried to set it to 1440 x 900 which works perfectly with our Vizio hdtv. It would only default to highest 1600 x 1200
and also had beaucoup black space around the entire visible area. Was unable to fix but I didn't spend much time on it.

I'm trying to find a low cost matrix switch like we use now with VGA with both those (lcd and hdtv).
I realize that if I'm trying to achieve that res I have to have the switch hooked up beforehand and probably default to the hdtv since it's wide screen.
But I'm not sure whether to go with an HDMI switch with a DVI to HDMI adapter (for the switch) or use a DVI switch and hdmi adapter for the hdtv.
