Woke up to this today.
I really don't want to throw in the towel yet. I'm not too sure if the LCD or the LCD cable.

I'd say that's an LCD problem.
You can try to fix it.
Take the LCD out of the lid, but leave it connected.
Remove the LCD cable from the back, then reinsert it properly. If necessary, replace the tape that holds it in place.
Make sure not to 'short' the inverter against anything (wrap a piece of plastic/paper around it).
Switch it on.
If the stripe is gone, it was a loose cable.
If not...
Once you see that stripe again, put some pressure at the top of the screen immediately above that stripe.
"Mess around" in that same area a bit.
If the stripe goes away, it's definitely lose vertical/column drivers.
You'll need a new LCD.
But just to make sure, also remove/reconnect the cable on the motherboard, and the inverter from/to the LCD cable.

It definitely is not the cable. The signal cable doesn't have any particular horizontal addressing circuitry so a missing column can not be blamed on the LVDS cable. Unfortunately it is a problem with the LCD panel itself. You can try massaging the connection between the LCD panel and the thin ribbons that connect to it at the top, but when an entire column is missing often the column driver has failed or is suffering a connection problem elsewhere.
However, as RBS said, it is not a bad idea to re-seat everything.
