Ok, so I've done some upgrades on my T60 over the years:
CPU T2500 -> T7200
HDD 80GB -> SSD 120GB
RAM 2GB -> 4GB
...but why stop there
So the next chapter is to upgrade the wifi-adapter. I believe the current adapter supports up to IEEE 802.11.g (up to 54 Mbit/s) according to this site:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/IBM+Thinkp ... ment/13018
From the picture I see the wifi adapter needs 2 antennas.
So what I could do is use a USB Wifi-dongle that supports the 802.11.ac (up to 1300 Mbit/s), but since the T60 only has USB 2.0 (up to 480 Mbit/s) that would be a bottleneck. Besides it isn't all that fancy having a USB dongle sticking out of your laptop...
On this site I found the following:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... de#p721364
where the following parts are recommended: FRU 42T0825 or 42T0827.
As far as I can tell these wifi-adapters support up to 802.11.n.
Question: Do these adapters fit "out of the box"? No customization needed?
From pictures it seems that both 42T0825 and 42T0827 needs 3 antennas?
Has anyone in here done this particular upgrade?
On the lenovo forums I found this interesting thread:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-pri ... -p/1334709
Here it seems that the wifi-adapter is upgraded to 802.11.ac. And furthermore according to the specifications of the wifi-adapter only needs 2 antennas:
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/195 ... ci-express)
I've tried to contact the guy with the latter solution, but he hasn't replied.
Question: It seems that this wifi-adapter is smaller than the original, so some sort of connector/adapter should be used so it would fit properly. Where would I find such an adapter?
Has anyone on this forum tried this upgrade?
I hope you can point me in the right direction so I can get on with my project.
Thanks in advance.
