Best Frankenpad I can build?

Hi all,
Won a couple of Thinkpads on eBay, a T60 2007-66G and a T61 7659-CTO and they should be with me by the end of the week.
Both I don't know if work, but it's a risk I can afford to take for the sake of £27. I've no problem with stripping them down to replace parts and so forth.
My question is, what is the best spec I could bring either of these machines up to, I must admit, the T60 with the 1450x1050 display looks somewhat wonderful and what sort of battery could I eke out of it with any improvements I make, I assume newer CPUs/boards would be more power efficient and so forth. I'm willing to put money into a machine that would last me through Uni as a compliment to my desktop and X230.
Thanks in advance
