My Lenovo T61p-6457 has all of a sudden stopped working.

When I power it up I see the that power and HDD green lights go on and from another computer on my network I can access individual files on the T61p hdd.

However when I connect the T61p via VGA cable to an external working monitor I don't see Windows or any images on the external screen!

Do you think that there is only a problem with the screen or could there be something else?

The currently installed screen on the T61p 6457 is WSXGA 1680x1050 (Samsung LTN154P2-LO5).

I have found a working WUXGA 1920 x 1200 along with inverter and cable in the original Lenovo T61p top case housing - will this work in my T61p and solve the apparent screen problem for me?

That machine has an nVidia GPU, which more than likely has died, same as thousands upon thousands of other nVidia GPUs from that same era.
Read the gazillion of nVidia bug posts on this and other forums.

You want a new motherboard (most likely). Try to grab a 42w7875
