T61 suffered a water spill

A couple days ago a tragic (small amount, but bad enough) water spill took out the keyboard in a MBP sitting on top of my T61p...
Not sure exactly how much got in there, but enough to mess things up. A small but decent amount would have made it in the vent next to the VGA port as shown below.

Unfortunately I think the computer was sleeping when this happened and I did not respond as quickly as I should, so power was still probably going thru the machine.
When I try and turn it on, the device access light stays lit up, and the computer will reset itself a couple times before giving up. Does this sound like I am in need of just a new motherboard, or is it worse sounding than that? Later today I will remove the hard drive and see if that survived the spill.
Thanks in advance. Hope to get it back alive soon
