I read it somewhere that it's about 14 watts at idle with the screen off.
Does that sound about right?

With screen off? IMO, significantly less, especially with an integrated GPU.
I doubt their measured it with the screen off; that is simply not a reasonable use case. Most likely the screen was at minimum brightness.
I have a couple of T60s, I can try to provide such measurements later.

Here is the data I gathered:
T60 1952-F76, 14" SXGA+, T7200, Intel GMA950
- Idle, minimum brightness, Wifi/BT off: ~10W
- Idle, maximum brightness, Wifi/BT on: ~16W
T60 2007-QPG, 15" SXGA+ IPS, T7200, ATI X1400
- Idle, minimum brightness, Wifi/BT off: ~12.5W
- Idle, maximum brightness, Wifi/BT on: ~17.5W
The machines were completely idle for the test (empty desktop, no user activity, verified ~0% CPU activity via Process Explorer). The wattage information is taken from Lenovo Power Manager. The average numbers over a few minutes are reported.

Wow, that is over and above just a simple response.
Thank you very much!
In my case, I run an external monitor, with the lcd panel turned off, so it's much lower then I would suspect.
Now I don't feel as guilty for leaving it on after torrenting/compiling is finished.
