T61 7665-12G - new LCD but which one?

#1 Post by Insomniac1971 » Tue Sep 23, 2014 8:40 am

Hi, so my laptop has survived so far but the LCD needs to be replaced and I have spent alot of time looking through ebay and other places to find a new LCD, my problem is that though I'm looking for 42t0453(chi Mei) it would seem that there are other Fru's that fit this model but not listed in the H/W maintainance manual. There should be some samsung and LG-Philips.

Could someone guide me to the correct LG-philips or samsung fru? It has to be WXGA+ 14.1" Matte 1440x900.

With kind regards

JBJ

EDIT: It would seem that there are these available, but which one should I take and which one should I keep away from?

LCD panel, 14.1-in. WXGA+
7665-CTO, 11x, 12x, 13x, 16x, 1Tx, 2Bx, 2Cx, 2Dx, 2Ex, 3Jx, 3Px, 3Rx, P2x, P3x

No. FRU no. RoHS ID CRU ID

220nit, LG-Display 42T0406 R N
200nit LG-Display 42T0427 R N
200nit LG-Display 42T0579 R N
200nit, CMO 42T0453 R N
200nit, Samsung 13N7108 R N
200nit, Samsung 42T0412 R N
200nit, Samsung 42T0583 R N

EDIT, again: I should have been more clear, I looking for these within europe - otherwise I will have to pay TAX and VAT even on second hand screens, and the final price will more than a refurbished T61 from a dealer.

Attached list of LCD found in Thinkpads taken from the wiki:

I have a few of these screens if you're interested including a genuine lenovo refurbished screen that is one of the nicest I've seen for $80, or I have a few others ranging in the $40-60 ballpark. Slightly blemished screens are sometimes available for even less. Shipping to a usa address is a flat $15 and international shipping starts at $35, if any of this is of interest, you can send me a PM and we can discuss it further.

ps. I also have a webcam, bezel and video cable set for this model if you're interested ($40) and a ricoh 4in1 card reader with bezel that fits this model. These are the most desirable options on this model.

Hi Tuus, thanx for the offer but as I have just stated above I'm looking for one within europe, or the total cost will e more than my wallet can bear:)

But could you help me in the search for the right screen, I need one that is not too dark and not a glossy one:)

With kind regards

From ThinkWiki:

13N7106 42T0406 42T0426 42T0427 42T0428 42T0579 27R2449 = LP141WP1-TLB8 which is a LG Philips 220-nit panel.

hi ajkula66, thanx for the answer - can i ask what the advantage is for taking this one - I searched on it and many times it says glossy screen(I'm looking for non-gloss/anti glare)?

Thanx again:)

The problem you're going to have is that genuine parts aren't made any more and if you're looking for a new screen most all of the generics are glossy. If you want a original lenovo part you should find a good used one or you can order a refurbished one from IBM website, although costly.

Regarding shipping, I'm afraid there is no cheap way to ship a very thin piece of glass like this and most sellers insist on express shipping for LCD screens.

Regarding price, these screens retail for well over $200 if you can even find a new one and I can pretty much assure you that any LCD dealer you find will be selling generics, not original lenovo parts. If price is a major concern you might want to go with a WXGA instead of the WXGA+, they generally sell for much less and are a direct replacement.

I can get the FRU and manufactures number off my factory refurbished screen for you if you like

A genuine Lenovo-issued part will NOT be glossy under any set of circumstances. Matte only.

A generic POS...sure...

What about samsungs screens, I have seen some that are 220 nit also

http://www.amazon.co.uk/COMPATIBLE-PHIL ... ssionsPost

this one is suppose to be LTN141WD-L01 and according to http://www.panelook.com/LTN141WD-L01_SA ... _8437.html its an 220 nit

and the LTN141WD-L05 is an 200 nit http://www.panelook.com/LTN141WD-L05_SA ... _8441.html

Would there be a problem using the L01 instead of the L05?

Don't care for Samsung screens. A LP-Phillips anyday.

Key word: "compatible" = stay away from it.
Would there be a problem using the L01 instead of the L05?
Would you like to blow a fuse on the motherboard in order to find out? I didn't think so.

Stay with *genuine* parts and away from the "compatible" junk.

You might spend a few euros more, but you're likely to save yourself a ton of grief in the process as well.

Hi guys:) I thank you for all your help, I have solved my problem (for now) by buying an R61 7738-A52 instead, and later I will buy a new LCD for the T61(when I'm back in the Philippines). So now I'm just making a backup of my system before transferring the HDD and DVD-RW to the R61 - just in case it screws up.

I got the R61 for just 500 Dkk, thats about 86 USD. It had 2GB Ram and the same CPU.

The good thing is that my batteries work with this one and so do my DVD-RW, so no big problem.

With kind regards

Hi guys I'm back again, my R61 is working great:) But like to get my T61 working:)

This time I'm mostly interested in the cheapest LCD not so much quallity, but has to be matte not glossy.

I will be going for the 1440x900 WXGA+

The new questions are:

Could I use a complete LCD panel from R61, T400, R400, Z61t, T410s or T410si - if it had same size? When 2nd hand most people here just sell the whole LCD with frame, therefore they only have laptop model number - Is the flexcable and inverter connector the same on the above models?

My HW maintainance manual covers these ThinkPad T61, R61, and R61i (14.1-inch widescreen), so my question is not totally outhere:)

When searching for the T61 LCD the price is very high, but not so high on the R61, T400, R400, Z61t, T410s or T410si.

I now have a new LCD and can confirm that lp141wx1(tl)(a2) work as it should with my T61 7665-cto, the resolution is 1280x800 nad the LCD is glossy.

It was a pain in the butt, taking appart the screen and not one I will get into again in the near future. Cannot recommend this for beginners.
