14.1" T60 SXGA+ Screen Issue

#1 Post by Xmsteel » Sun Sep 28, 2014 4:38 pm

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a T60 for my mother after her laptop was failing. I have a 15" T60 and loved it so decided to get one for her as well.
Just recently, as in the last 2 or 3 days, the screen has be having pixelation issues. It appears to happen when opening the lid and booting up the computer after it has been fully shutdown. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. Her drivers are up to date.

She has a 14.1" T60 Model 2007 with the SXGA+ 1400x1050 screen. Running windows 7 32bit.

Pic is way too big, need to warn people in the post. somebody will be by shortly and slap your hand.

Looks like a GPU issue, the fix is a new MoBo.

Sorry

I'm to spoiled by forums having auto-resizing codes, I just changed it to a direct link.
Hopefully its not that, once she reboots it again it usually is fine. Its only happened twice so far.

The T60 motherboards are selling for less than a good sxga+ screen, so a gpu problem may be good news, but if you want to eliminate software as a cause you can try booting from a linux live CD, and if you need a motherboard or a screen I may be able to help you after I return from vacation in about 3 weeks.

I have picked up more than 1 MoBo for less than $20.00 shipped, with good results. Uunderboi is on a P board transferred into a regular chassis as we speak.

I'm trying to retrofit SXGA+ screen to a 14.1" T60 that had XGA screen. When I replaced the screen with used SXGA+ screen, the laptop doesn't boot up anymore. Boot sequence goes to that point when screen should come on, then the backlight flash once and the power of the laptop suddenly cuts. No beeps.

I tried to swap the old XGA screen back and the laptop works fine with that.

The replacement screen is pulled from T60 and according to seller it should be working fine. The replacement includes lid and everything within it.

What I should check to get the new screen working? I have understood, that those screens should be compatible for direct swapping.

If you replace the whole lid, and the 'new' one does not work, the screen must be faulty.
Apart from the LCD itself, XGA and SXGA+ use the same parts.

Thanks for fast answer.

Do you mean by screen that the lcd panel is faulty or can the fault be in cards (inverter and Bluetooth) inside the lid? So would it be worth to try swapping only XGA+ panel from the 'new' lid?

Could be LCD, inverter or cable.
But you say seller stated that the screen was working, meaning the whole lid was working.
Return it for a refund or guaranteed working replacement.
