Hello,

I have a T60p 15.4" laptop (8744-C9U) and I need to replace the fan soon. I changed the heatsink once with an original one which IIRC it had 3 pipes, instead 2 like the first one. Now, I want change only the fan or try to use a T61p heatsink.

1) If I only change the fan can I use a T500 fan in the T60p heatsink? I read that is better than T60p or T61p fan. Can I use any T500 fan or only a specific fan? I appreciate if someone can provide a FRU number. I'm not sure if I can make the heatsink touch the GPU and CPU using Arctic Silver 5 not thermal pads.
I found this, but I don't see the FRU number:

2) If I change the heatsink with one for T61p is the FRU number 42W2028 good?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.
You're sure your machine is not a 8744-C9U ?
Official T60p/discrete FRU: 41W6409
Official T61p/discrete FRU: 42X4685 (possibly replaced by 42W2028, don't know it personally)
Official T500/discrete FRU: 45N5492
You can exchange just your T60p fan itself for one from a T500 for discrete graphics
A complete T500 heatsink might not fit properly.
