Grepping the MTM CSV list provided at sites.google.com/site/twisteroidambassador/thinkpads/mtm-lookup-table for "6481" type models, there are indeed 38 entries mentioning "7662" and "7663" models in the very same lines, e.g.:
"ThinkPad T61 (6481-A12)" "Based 7663-REA: T8300(2.4GHz) 1GB RAM 160GB HD 14.1in 1280x768 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M CDRW/DVDRW Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled) Bluetooth Modem 1Gb Ether UltraNav Sec Chip FPR Camera Turbo Mem 6c Li-Ion DOS License"
or in reverse order:
"ThinkPad T61 (7662-A44)" "Based 6481-NRK: T8100(2.10GHz) 1GB RAM 160GB 5400rpm HD 14.1in 1440x900 LCD 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M CDRW/DVDRW Intel 802.11agn Bluetooth Modem 1Gb Ether UltraNav Sec Chip FPR 6c Li-Ion WinVista Home Premium 32"
This is a rather strange find, as T61 product numbers usually reliably define 6xxx-yyy as 15.4" wide screen, 8xxx-yyy as 14.1" 4:3 screen, and 7xxx-yyy as 14.1" wide screen. There never was any known exception to that rule, but here we might have stumbled over a strange pairing of product id's.
Nonetheless, i wouldn't only rely on the replaceable sticker on the back side, but rather check the first seven characters of the "System-unit serial number" shown on the initial screen of the BIOS setup. You might like to check there as well.

I'd rather consider this just to be an exception to a still very valid rule. The certainties we have grown to generally apply just fine, as years of experience have successfully taught us. An exception doesn't invalidate the rule.ajkula66 wrote:Interesting find. I stand corrected.

I just checked. It's the same.rumbero wrote:Nonetheless, i wouldn't only rely on the replaceable sticker on the back side, but rather check the first seven characters of the "System-unit serial number" shown on the initial screen of the BIOS setup. You might like to check there as well.
Sorry to discombobulate everyone. All I wanted to know, was about the overheating problem!
