Battery shows 97%, but completely dead.

Apologies about another battery question.

I have a 2623-D4U T60, and the battery is aftermarket. The battery indicator shows 97% (not charging) in Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17. It never changes. The battery status in the T60 panel is always non-flashing green. The system is stable.

If the AC adapter is unplugged, it instantly dies, and separately, it will not start on the battery.

My last battery, a two-year lived aftermarket, did accurately show the charge percentage. It would charge and then drain quickly.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like a problem with the battery cells/circuitry. Your best bet would be to get an OEM battery to prevent this kind of issue, but a reputable aftermarket battery brand could also work. I heard Anker is good, but from my experience, two of the batteries they sent me for my T61 would randomly shutoff (tested in T60 with the same results). Hopefully others can chime in on alternative brands.

My bet would go along the lines of battery being defective. I'd remove it from the system altogether before it damages the charging circuit.

Get a genuine - even lightly used - Lenovo battery, preferably with Panasonic cells.

I have had this happen before. It is caused by a fault in a regulator chip on the battery's internal circuitboard. The chip either had a solder connection break loose or fried. Either way, there is no risk to your computer, but you are never going to get that battery to work again without opening it up and fixing the circuit board.

Thanks for the replies. The new battery finally arrived and all is now well.
