T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
I have t60 2007fug with ati x1400.
Worked fine til now. Need to mention that I replaced the screen few months ago and it's work great. Today suddenly the picture on the screen freezed. I push the power button and to do hard shut down. Then I push power button and it powers up with the battery, ac and Bluetooth indicators on but the picture is blank. I see that the display powers on too but doesn't show anything. HDD indicator doesn't show that HDD works. It not beeps so I really don't know what is the problem. Pulled the battery out and tried only with ac but same result.

Remove all the RAM and power the machine on. Does it beep now?

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
After posting, I did few more tests with ram and without it. With the ram in ( one stick each time and replacing the dimm location I started to receive two short beeps.
I don't think that it is a ram problem. My guess is that my mobo gone after 6.5 years of use.

So, 2 short beeps mean motherboard? The ram is ok.
Before I order mobo, can you confirm that most likely it is fault motherboard?

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
It does sound like a faulty board.Wiking wrote: Before I order mobo, can you confirm that most likely it is fault motherboard?
Have you tried the static discharge:
Remove the battery, unplug the AC adapter. Pull out the hard and media drives.
Press the "power" button ten times in a row holding it down for ten seconds each time, and thirty seconds the last time around.
Plug the AC adapter - but nothing else - back in and try to power on.
Good luck.

Well, at least the T60 planars are quite inexpensive nowadays.Wiking wrote:Tried but the result is the same.

Looks like the T60/R60/X60 boards are beginning to die off. Then again, they're more than 7 years old by now. :I

Off topic, I have now for a while T420 with 1600x900 display. What can I tell... My T60 is much better in quality, screen size (4:3) and feels more solid and survivable against the T420. The only thing that my T60 need is a good ssd to run like a bunny.

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
One of my clients had a T60 14.1-inch non-widescreen that died late last year. That what I told to myself. It started to make problems only this year with dying display and now mobo.
I also noticed some R60's with defective planars being offered for sale locally.
My cousin's X60s is getting cranky too: sometimes it won't boot, and she had to remove and reseat the RAM and battery to get it up and running again. :O
Pretty understandable though, as these were manufactured in 2006. :O

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
Maybe I can upgrade it somehow now with more powerful planar and CPU? Suggestions what to do? It is 14.1 inch model.

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
You could throw in a board from a 14" (non-widescreen) T61/p. Minor mods would be required.

SATA II transfer speed - presuming Middleton's modded BIOS - vs. SATA I on T60
Access to newer/faster CPUs.

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
There were three options for 14" T61/p and each of them had several different FRUs attached...Wiking wrote:Can you write me a motherboard FRU that I need.
a) Intel X3100 integrated graphics
b) nVidia NVS140M GPU
c) nVidia FX570M GPU
Make up your mind on which one would work for you and we'll take it from there.

Both "b" and "c" are theoretically prone to dying from "nVidia bug".Wiking wrote:Option b were the faulty boards, right?

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
Planar with ATI fireGL won't be a big upgrade? If I remember correct, my fsb is 667mhz. 3gb ram, WD Scorpio black and WD Scorpio blue as ultrabay HDD is my current setup.

So, replace with same board and save cash for ssd is the best option besides replacing to newer model.

If it were mine, I'd buy a T61 with a busted screen or an XGA one, swap your lid on and enjoy.Wiking wrote:So, replace with same board and save cash for ssd is the best option besides replacing to newer model.

Good idea but I don't want an Intel GPU one and the models with nvidia all are a gamble from what I read.

How about this board ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-Thin ... OC:US:1123
I can buy it for 20$. will it fit into my 14.1 T60 2007-fug ?
Do I need to change Heat sink with fan for it ?

Re: T60 doesn't boots/show picture/beeps
Thanks to this forum I learned to download the psref to see what fits what and what potential organ donors contain. That's the fast way to search Ebay and do your own homework. If seller doesn't show a pic of the tag I ask for it.
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/psrefs_withdrawn.shtml
I don't buy system boards any more because buying complete organ donors is as cheap and one gets many more parts sometimes including power supplies and docks. Swapping a complete base is much more efficient and people who bother to pull a board tend to want more money for it. Your machine, your call, but complete T60 donors are often around thirty dollars making it absurd IMO to buy a board for the same price.
