Hey guys, as the title states, I am looking to upgrade my T61P to LED backlight. My cursory search online of the LED inverter boards reveal they seem to have the same connector:

T500 LED Inverter (FRU: 42W8080 / 42W8079 / 42W8082):

T61P CCFL Inverter (FRU: 41W1338):

Finally, if these will be swappable, where would one recommend I look for the actual LED backlight assembly? ( I know how intricate the actual backlight swap is, I have done numerous CCFL replacements)

Thanks!

The inverter should probably work since they are swappable in the T500. For the led strip itself, check out ebay. You can also look at aliexpress.

The T500 LCD cable is the same for CCFL and LED.
The inverters have the same LCD-cable-connectors.
The difference is in the CCFL(2-pin) and LED(12-pin) connectors themselves.
And of course the inverters themselves are different (as shown in pictures above).
You could buy a LED-screen, such as http://www.ebay.com/itm/121564007725 and tear the LED-innards out.
But cheaper is probably this: http://www.iccfl.com/product_info.php?c ... s_id=17063
Whether it's better? Don't know...

Or go wild and get a Sharp WUXGA screen (CCFL): http://thinkwiki.de/Besseres_Display_f% ... _ThinkPads

This topic may be of interest if you are considering soldering wires directly. You could probably just use the existing ccfl inverter.

No, that isn't possible. The screen in the thread you linked to has the LED driver as part of the panel itself. In the T500, the LED driver board is separate from the LCD panel.
