ACPI Event Warnings - Event ID 15

#1 Post by EAkamai » Mon Feb 02, 2015 6:00 pm

Howdy,,, didn't find anything on this particular ID but a lot on EventID 13.

Getting 5 of these every time I boot up my T61 (14.1" Standard 4:3)- Win7 Pro sp1 system:

Logged by the System
Source: ACPI
EventID: 15

": The embedded controller (EC) returned data when none was requested. The BIOS might be trying to access the EC without synchronizing with the operating system. This data will be ignored. No further action is necessary; however, you should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS."
---------------
Crazy thing is it was cloned from a wide screen (15.4") T61 which doesn't have these warnings.
Could it be the difference in these system boards causing this?
Bios on both is Middleton 2.29. I believe I cloned these using Ghost.

Only other warning is a very rare profile hive (certificate service?) warning.
I doubt they are related since both systems have this one but next time I get it I'll make a note.
Otherwise clone seems perfect.

I'm suspecting I should re-install or upgrade the Power Manager software first?
Unfortunately, I can't tell what the present version is. Usually I record that but this time I didn't :(
The package executable is: "guu403ww.exe". Yes, it's the only driver I didn't record the version #.
I noted on a later release (version 6.67.2 - package name "n14u403w.exe") something interesting under "Problem fixes":
"Fixed a Windows Error Reporting issue." hmmmmmmm I wonder which error?!

Any other thoughts on this?

As always, thanks in advance for any help\info.

Re: ACPI Event Warnings - Event ID 15 - Pwr Mgr or Pwr Mgt?

#2 Post by EAkamai » Mon Feb 02, 2015 6:10 pm

Whoa, looks like a brain freeze.

Maybe it's the Power Management I need to re-install or upgrade?
Looks like I have Power Manager version 6.65.2

Which one or both? would deal with ACPI?!

I noticed these on my T41 with Windows 7 while I was troubleshooting a strange "freezing" issue... that's about all I have to add, however.

Re: ACPI Event Warnings - Event ID 15 - UPDATE

#4 Post by EAkamai » Mon Feb 02, 2015 7:14 pm

UPDATE (guess I can't count correctly):

There's FIVE (5), of these same warnings upon every windows start. (Original post edited)
And they appear with AC power or only battery, with or without Adv dock.

Re: ACPI Event Warnings - Event ID 15 - TPFC Was the Culprit

#5 Post by EAkamai » Tue Feb 03, 2015 12:35 am

After hours restoring older images, uninstalling software including both the pwr mgr & pwr mgt utilities,
I finally uninstalled TPFC .062 and BINGO, warnings disappear.

Now I'm wondering whether images without those thinkpad utilities with tpfc will give those warnings?
Completely uninstalling them didn't get rid of warnings. It wasn't until I uninstalled tpfc that they disappeared.

His version .063 seems to work without the warnings. What's different about this version?

Yes, its TPFC v1.62 which spawns these events. You have to run instecnl.bat in the TPFC\Optional folder as well as the included acpielogoff reg hack to get rid of these unnecessary warnings.

This does not explain why a reinstalled image reintroduces the warnings though. However they are easy to get rid of by the above method.
Where to begin......
390e x1 390X 390X,700mhz
1 x T20 + about 8 untested for spares
4 X T23 + 6 breaking for parts
1 X T23 with Samsung 840 SSD and XP Great combination !

AND NOW....3 X T60s and 3 x T61s

Duh  Turns out original system didn't have TPFC installed! It was installed in new system after cloning.

Is it better to run the bat file & reg hack with .062 or simply use .063 which gives no warnings?
Seems as though there may be some differences between the two.
But the reason given by the Esteemed Author for using .063 seems to be something other [more involved] than just these warnings?

We also noted the file 'TVIcPort.sys' (installed with TPFC) is the only file on the system which generates an Audit Failure warning (Event 5038).
But that happened in both versions.

Thanks for your feedback\info!

Doesn't work:
Uninstalled .063
Installed .062
Ran 'instecnl.bat' & verified "acpiecnl.sys" was copied to System32\drivers folder
Entered 'acpiecLogOff.reg' file into registry.

Still generating exact same 5 warnings every time. This is Win7?

OK, I had a look at a Win7 T61 and it is normal to get the five ACPIE events in the system log with v062.

So if this bothers you just run v063 which has been designed to have less interaction with the embedded controller and therebye avoids any logging in the Event Viewer system log as you have observed.

Thank you!
It seems to log only upon starting the OS, and now that I know what's causing it, it's no big deal.
If I see it causing ongoing logging besides initial startup, I may change it out again.

Thanks again!
