I have two 14 inch T61s. I am cleaning out and like to keep one machine.

Laptop1 model 8895: 14 inch standard screen xga 42w7648 motherboard with Intel x3100 chipset.

Laptop2 model 7659: 14 widescreen wxga 41w1487 with intel 3100 chipset.

Any advice which laptop I should keep.

Does 42w7648 good for building a Frankenpad?

Is it easier to get replacement parts for T61-7659 than T61-8895 with more unit produced?

Replacement parts? Just buy a cheap unit that has what you need...

I am typing this from my T61 -8895, its a real joy and has been on non stop for years
Best machine in my opinion.

My opinion is keep the one you like. The 8895 is more desirable to thinkpad fans, the board can be fitted in a T60 and it's the last 4:3 aspect ratio T series, but the widescreens are good laptops too and the parts are much cheaper especially motherboards and plastics.

I think if you're selling to raise money you should sell the 8895 because it will fetch a higher price and just the fact that you are asking this means you don't have a preference, but if you are selling just to make room and want to keep the better of the two, then sell the widescreen which are still very nice computer and highly underrated imo.

Both have the more reliable Intel graphics but are also common models without any of the rare options if I'm not mistaken, and both will last at least a decade or more if cared for as they are very dependable machines.

Thank you for your input. You are right, I have no preference. Both machines are very adequate for spreadsheets and web surfing.

Keep the [censored] widescreen, sell me the 4:3, I always wanted one

I would keep the 8895, but upgrade the screen.

Will there be any interest in the package of motherboard & cpu (42w7648 & T7300)?
