Dropped "fixed" nvidia T61

#1 Post by dcai777 » Mon Feb 16, 2015 9:18 pm

I have a T61 that is 6470-W2X that has a 2010 nvidia chip that was fine until it fell off my desk and hit the wheel of my chair. Since then, it won't turn on with a 1 long 2 short beep code. After taking it apart, when I put pressure on the GPU it will turn on properly, but with a green distorted display. Should I leave it in the oven to melt the solder to make a new bond?

While you have nothing to lose apart from time, my opinion is that you'd be better served with a replacement board.

Good luck.

I don't find the labor involved to possibly rescue garbage GPUs for a little longer worth it though T61s are easy to disassemble.

Organ donors are so cheap on Ebay it's less hassle to find a T61 with no hard disk and an Intel GPU and swap your parts over. I don't buy boards since people who pull boards tend to want more money than those who just have a T61 with a busted screen etc to get rid of. A bit of lurking should get you a suitable donor cheap.
