All IRQs on my T60 have been set to "11".

#1 Post by warp4dennis » Tue Feb 17, 2015 12:36 pm

Hi:

I just noticed that INTA - INTH all have the same IRQ which is 11. I don't know, but I think Win 7 did it. Win 7 uses the AHCI Controller Mode as I understand it. And this may be the reason why I can't update the T60, because it says to set the Serial ATA Controller Mode to Compatibility when I update to Win 8.0.I seem to recall that the Interrupts (INTA - INTH) were all different when I used XP.

If that's the case, how do I go about setting them correctly?

Thomas

From looking at a bunch of different BIOS versions in my Thinkpads over the years, IRQ11 for all of the devices is the default condition. The way I understand it, IRQ11 is used as a "steering" interrupt for the PCI bus. Interrupts get automagically assigned when the system is booted and the hardware enumerated.

Question to warp4dennis: Where exactly are you seeing this information, about INTA-INTH assignments?

What is "it" that requests the Compatibility Mode? AFAIK, any recent Windows OS should be just fine with AHCI.

I found the info about INTA - INTH in the ThinkPad BIOS.
It's under Config -> PCI
The update CD/DVD says that you are suppose to set the SATA Controller Mode
to Compatibility.
That is correct. I tried using AHCI but the update was continually stopped and
turned off the ThinkPad.

Well, can't you change it to "Auto" if it bothers you? Although, as rkawakami explained, it should not make any difference, as the OS can both take over, and also work fine with all the interrupts set to 11.

That can be an issue with the upgrade media. I never tried to do an in-place upgrade of Windows. Of course, once the OS is installed, nothing prevents you from manually installing the AHCI driver and switching back to that mode.
