Octane on a T60p? Really, really bad?

I just upgraded my T60p to a T7600 CPU. All excited, I ran the google octane browser benchmark, and was repeatedly getting scores around 6,000, under windows XP:

Is anyone else doing better? This is about the speed of today's slowest atom processor (n2820, n2830, n2840, n2940) in a chromebook. Finally I ran the program with the XP system monitor on, and noticed during the benchmark that most of the time, either both CPUs were at 50%, or one was 100% and the other was near 0% utilization. This machine has 2GB RAM and a 7200 RPM 750GB drive. Is there anything I can do to squeeze more browser speed out of this machine? Should I upgrade to Windows 7, upgrade to Ubuntu? The browser is really sluggish, and the newer Celeron 2955U machines (Acer c720) score 12,000 - 13,000 on the Octane benchmark. I have a feeling that Ocane should be able to run 2x faster, because the "passmark" CPU Benchmark on the Celeron 2955U and the T7600 CPU are nearly identical:

Hmmm...that is a low score. Also to confirm the c720 Chromebook (w/Celeron 2955U) Octane score I got ~11877 a couple of minutes ago on my c720. You could try running a live linux desktop environment and giving Octane a run in that environment to see if there is any significant difference compared to the XP install.

An SSD hard drive will do WONDERS for the entire performance of your machine. I have one in one of my three Z61p machines (identical to the T60p) and it flies with Windows 7 Pro. I have T7600 CPUs in all of them along with 3GB RAM.

Have you checked for malware on the laptop? If it exists, then it could be why the system seems sluggish.

There's something wrong with those scores reported by OP...T43pSF with a measly PM780 CPU scored 5108 with Kmeleon, 4299 using Pale Moon and 3594 in IE, all while running W7 32 Pro.

T60p with a T7600 should do much better...as in *at least* twice the score...

Here's my 'Octane 2.0' scores (higher is better) :
(T60, T7200, Win7, ATI X1400, 4GB (3GB usable), 120GB Intel 320 Series SSD)
IE11 = 6230
Firefox 36.0 = 9894

I have no idea how 'biased' a Google benchmark may be.

Here's my 'SunSpider 1.0.2 JavaScript Benchmark' scores (lower is better) :
IE11 = 253.1 msec.
Firefox 36.0 = 370.8 msec.

Win7 with IE11 will always be better than XP with IE8.

When I run Octane on the latest FireFox, I get 5800.
I have attempted to turn off EVERYTHING in regards to speedstep in the BIOS.
I have put the machine in "Always On" power mode (shouldn't matter)
I run the Intel CPU identification tool, and it says :

2.33 Ghz processor expeced
0.99 Ghz core actual
0.99 Ghz core actual

How do I whip these lazy horses to run, run run ?
Could it be possible that somebody upgraded this machine with high-latency DRAM ?

I tried swapping a T2400 with T7500 in a T60P recently. I got a lower Windows 7 rating, it went from 4.2 to around 2.9. I don't know exactly why. The T7500 came from a T60 which had a 3.6 rating with it. I suspect the memory or chipset might have been incompatible with the faster processor or there were system driver issues. I think you are having the same issues. I ended up putting back the original processor. I just didn't feel like taking the time to troubleshoot the problem.

You mean T7600, correct? A T7500 would not boot in a T60/p.

Good one, it might have been a T7300. I sold the T60 it was in so I can't check it.

Well, I'll take a guess that it was T7200 since T7300 wouldn't work in there either...

The T7200 CPU in my T60 (w/ Intel CPU identification tool 5.10) says :
2.0 Ghz processor expected
2.0 Ghz Reported Core 1
2.0 Ghz Reported Core 2
Before that, it says "Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz".

Does yours say "T7600" ?
