Suitable glue for bottom rubber feet/strip

#1 Post by Orclas » Tue Apr 28, 2015 3:29 pm

Howdy folks,

One of the rubber feet/strip under my T61 has come off. Seems the factory glue is some kind of non-hardening adhesive, as it's still sticky. Any recommendations on suitable type of glue to use, or is it a matter of "whatever" is at hand?

I'd like to know a good source of rubber feet as well. :)

This is such a helpful forum, thanks :)
Is the "solvent free" part of the recommendation or optional?

Ask and thou shalt be given :)
I'm sure someone has a scrap cover which can donor a rubber feet or two for a symbolic price (or for free), just ask in this subforum or in the marketplace. I would have offered to post if I had any spare.

The glue suggestion seems a good one. As for the rubber feet, I was merely throwing out a casual question in the hope of getting lucky. I've a few different Thinkpad models that require rubber feet, with the only source being expensive Ebay substitutes that are generic and not Thinkpad related.

My inclination would be to reach for my little bottle of Weldwood Contact Cement. It too can remain sticky, at least for a long time, where the solvent in it can't evaporate. It's wonderful stuff and I've used it for many DIY projects. Be aware, however, that the fumes from it while it's drying to a tacky state are not good for you, so try to use it in well ventilated conditions.
