t60's spacebar balky -FIXED!

#1 Post by Muse » Sun May 24, 2015 9:54 am

One of my Thinkpad's spacebar is inconsistent. If I type a sentence without thinking about it, several of the words will have no space between them. I have to remember to press hard, not the usual tap. Can I easily fix this?

Harder to only replace the complete spacebar.
Easier to replace the complete keyboard.

Small objects can get jammed under a key. Lift it up a bit and use an air can to blow under it. I've had this happen several times.
Currently using: A W500, a W520, an X201T, an X220T, an X61T, a 14" T60P,a 15" UXGA T60P and a W700.
Currently idle: A spare W500, a spare X61T, a spare W700, a 14" T61, a 15" SXGA+ T60, a 14" T60, and my first Thinkpad, a 770X.

Also if you laptop was disassembled before the issue started, it is worth to see if all screws are in right places. Before I have remembered the layout, I had similar issues with buttons - turned out to be wrong screws in wrong places(too long).

Blew canned air under spacebar yesterday, the problem is not cured. Is it possible to pop the spacebar cover off and clean under it? I had removed the keyboard. I didn't really pry up on the spacebar cover particularly while blowing air in there, I could try harder.

Without opening the machine, I pried up the cover of the spacebar some and blew canned air underneath and now I'm not having a problem!!!
