Jumping into a Frankenpad

I've loved my trusty t60p for years but it's getting a bit sluggish. I looked into adding some pep and fell down the rabbit hole. I'm looking to go pretty big here.

Questions:
1. Will this CPU work on this merom board? Which the the best modification guide? I found a few different ones.
2. Am i missing anything? Are there any nice to haves? touchpad/palmrest options?
3. Best writeup on the LCD install? Seen a few different methods.
4. tools and supplies? regular screwdrivers, soldering iron, some random resistors, thermal paste. anything else?
5. Am i fool for going old NVIDIA?

I'd love to hear any other advice or opinions. Obviously im dropping some serious cash here for an "older" machine, but I'm really excited about the results. I'd like to make sure I avoid any stumbling blocks or having to rebuy anything, but I'm resigned to possibly a new motherboard, if I mess up round 1. Hopefully it's obvious I've at least done my homework, but please feel free to give any advice or mention anything i may have overlooked.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. All I can say is you really must like your T60. That is an expensive price list of supplies for such an old machine.

Welcome to the forum!

You need a pretty serious mod in order to run the CPU in question on *any* *61 series board.

Are you a fool for going with nVidia? Not necessarily. If it dies just swap the planar.

Personally, I'd pass on the SSD that you've chosen. As good as these were back in the day, they are old.

LCD mod - if you want it done right - is pretty intricate and not for the faint at heart. You may want to look for having it done by one of our forum pros...I know I did.

Happy FrankenPadding!

You could save at least $10 on the RAM. 2x2 DDR2 SODIMMs have been selling on eBay for less than $20.

It's not even my t60. Mine is a 14.1". I got LUCKY on ebay and got a near mint 15" for cheap. must have spent it's life in a dock or something because it's in mint shape except for top lid. not even a hint of shine on the keys.

I did find some, but i was hoping a matched pair with 555 latency would be better than mismatched, so that seemed worth the $10 to me. Is it just luck of the draw which ones work well with the 1066fsb? I'll see what else i can find.

Thanks! You think the SSD is really thaaat bad? It's newyork so if i watch craigslist im sure something else will come up.

I'm afraid with two way shipping and labor on top of the pricey led I just cant justify it, and honestly the "project" aspect of this is a big part of why I'm going this route. I've already got the nice flexview that unexpectedly arrived bright and even so I may even make the LCD a down the road step.

It's an excellent SSD, just very old. It might not have much life left in it.

The price that you've been quoted for the LED panel is actually an excellent one. Shipping to and from PA is what, $20?

Your money, your call. As nice as the ID Tech in that 2623-DDU is, LED screen is a whole another universe. I've got both. And a few more...
