(solved) Internal speakers no longer working (T61)

#1 Post by nofish » Thu Jul 30, 2015 11:38 am

Hello,

I have a T61 with WinXP running here for years and a few days ago the internal speakers suddenly stopped working, meaning there's not coming any sound out of the laptop's internal speakers anymore.
Sound is working fine though when I plug in active speakers or connect to an amp's line in in the laptop's line out connector.

So, I'm thinking the issue could only be a physical cause (probably loose connection to the internal speakers ?) since the internal soundcard still works fine, otherwise there wouldn't be any sound coming out of the line out jack.

Could that be, or any other ideas ?

Thanks.

I would check the speaker plug to the motherboard.

Thanks.
Yeah, seems the most obvious thing to me also.

Just thought maybe there are some other ideas what could cause this, hoping I can avoid disassembling it. :D
Not something I'm looking forward to do, but seems I have to.

Depends on the OS - I remember a few drivers messing up internal speaker volumes versus just plugging into the jack around Vista release time frame. Just ensure all playback devices are enabled in your volume controls and the volume levels reset.

Not an usual thing, but might save you the head ache of opening the machine.

Solved. :)

Don't know why I didn't think about this sooner but searching for similar issues I stumbled over this post by DaveG11th:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T ... 500#M52814

Did as he suggested there:
Took a toothpick, wiggled gentle in the line jack and voila - sound came back, it was exactly as he wrote there, the line out jack contact blocked the internal speakers.

Happy I don't have to disassemble (for now, hope it keeps working).

Thanks for the suggestions all.
