And those of you with T60Ps, how reliable are they for daily 2015 use (mostly internet, office, movies and occasional programming and graphics)? Which windows OS is the wisest to install?

How can I tell if a model has flexview? Even if I manage to fall on a seller that actually know their model number (many don't), the Lenovo model book mentions that some of the models have flexview (meaning that some don't >:-().

(why all these questions: I want a thinkpad with a decent sized IPS screen, and I'm tired of being outbidded on T440S...)

Any 2.5" SSD (7mm or 9.5mm high) will fit in a T60/p.
Good ones are e.g. Samsung 840 Pro, Samsung 850 Pro (stay away from Samsung EVO), Plextor M6, Sandisk Extreme Pro.
If a T60 has 1600x1200, it is always IPS.
Since these screens are easily interchangeable from/into any other 15" (T41/T42/T43/T60/R60/R61) model, you can't always tell from the model number.
You'll have to ask the seller and ask to see the machine for yourself.

If you have money to spare (up to ~$1300), I can build you a dream Frankenpad:
15" T60 chassis with a 14.1" T61 motherboard with Intel or nVidia graphics and up to 8GB RAM, 256 or 512GB SSD, modded BIOS by Middleton, 450Mbps wifi-N, etc.
Best of all: it will have a new 15" UXGA (1600x1200) BoeHydis IPS Flexview screen with ex-factory LED-backlight (the very last one I have).

I've used the Samsung 850 EVO in an x201 for more than a year without any problems. Have also put on in on a T61 without problems.

The main problem with the T6x series IMO is the screen is not LED backlit.

RealBlackStuff, I'm afraid if I had money to spare I wouldn't be losing all those T440S auctions

A T60p should perform quite well with simple word processing and email usage. However, it would struggle with heavy webpages especially with Flash, or 1080p video playback.

Windows 7 is proven to work well. I haven't tried personally, but there seems to be success stories of Windows 8 as well.
