T61 water damage? AC doesn't charge and critical low-battery error

Hello,

I accidently put some water on the keyboard of my Thinkpad T61. It shut off immediately. I disconnect the AC and battery from the laptop, dissasambled the keyboard and touchpad and let it dry.

After some hours I put it all back together and could start the laptop and OS without any problems.

But I noticed that my laptop is running from battery, instead of AC. I also noticed that the battery is not charging.

I removed the battery and tried to start with only AC connected. The thinkpad starts but immediately gives the error message: critical low-battery error

and shuts down.

Could my AC have been damaged? Any ideas what happened?

Thanks

I can't guarantee this will resolve your problem but a known remedy which is often successful for consumer electronics damaged by water is to put it in rice (uncooked). It will help to dry the board etc. You can YouTube or Google it to get specifics.

Check with a multimeter if your charger still has +20VDC
Inside of the plug = Plus (do not touch the small pin inside there!)
Outside of the plug = Ground/Minus

You could also have blown some fuse(s) near the battery connectors (big white ones with gold contacts on each side)

Hi,

the multimeter shows +20VDC.

How can I open the device to see the fuses?
