Feeler for Frankenpad component

#1 Post by lincolnor » Wed Dec 23, 2015 2:41 am

I got the components to build a low end Frankenpad , and was planning to do it during the holiday. But I am not confident with the modification and check any member has interests in these parts.

The parts:

Motherboard is 42w7648 with Intel gpu from T61-8895. Original bios and no supervisor password.

15" standard 4:3 format 1400x1050 sxga+ LG LP150E05 IPS screen

Frame from 15" T60 2007 machine.

Penryn 2.4 ghz T8300 cpu

The motherboard has a Intel gpu, no nvidia problem. But does not have great resolution for sxga+ ips screen.

Never done any modifications before and very reluctant to go ahead.

No dollar value will be discussed only performances of the Frandenpad with these parts.

Merry Christmas and season's greetings to all members.

You'll need to apply Middleton's BIOS (with a T7xxx CPU) before you can put in that T8100 CPU, since the mobo is not native-Penryn compatible.
You can also save yourself some chassis-hassle by "carefully removing" the modem-connector from the mobo.
Get a pair of pliers, grab that modem thingie, wiggle-waggle it a few times till it comes off, and you're done [removing the modem-connector].
But there's more chassis-work to be done, so make sure to read up about it...
That mobo can handle XGA/SXGA+/UXGA/QXGA screens without any problems.
With an SSD and 4GB or 8GB RAM that Frankie will fly for a long time!
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thank you for your inputs, RBS. I will practice on a dead motherboard first.

T60/T61 FrankenPad'ing "how-to"...

#4 Post by Johan » Wed Dec 23, 2015 4:53 pm

You don’t actually have to remove the modem (connector) on the T61 motherboard, since you can in stead remove part of the T60-frame (mechanics) which prevent the T61 motherboard(-modempart) from being mounted in the T60 frame. Most T61-FrankenPad’ers however appear to live without the modem-functionality… as connectivity over the internet (via Ethernet and WLAN) to a very large extent has taken over the need for modem functionality.

There’s a very good “how-to-modify-T60-frame” guide (with fine, instructional images!) in the thread Parts for the ultimate 15” T60 UXGA FlexView w/T61(p) mobo? (more precicely in this post).

If you need more information about “FrankedPad’ing” you find a lot especially here on the forum; see e.g. the following threads:

My Frankenpad Conversion and Heat Sink Mods [+PICS] and Frankenpad T60/61 cooling question and WTB 15" T60 frame for FrankenPad project (solved) and Frankenpad cooling questions and Some FrankenPad questions and [GUIDE] Make your T60 with ATI run *cool* (and quiet) and Frankenpad part and T60 FrankenPad and… all the many other relevant threads linked to in the above!

Happy FrankenPad’ing and Merry Christmas! :santa:

No time to spend on the project. I will sell the 15" LG LP150E05 IPS screen (full panel assembly) in 2016. PM me if you are interested.

I am considering yours but if it is just ok then probably not and I already have
the motherboard - suppose I could build two. Going to look for UXGA.
