Is there a maximum capacity of SSD for T61...

#1 Post by robert213 » Sat Jan 23, 2016 11:57 pm

Is there a maximum capacity of SSD for T61...
running Windows 7 32-bit?
running Windows 7 64-bit?
running Middleton BIOS update?

Are there any negative thoughts regarding...
Samsung 850 Pro 500 GB SSD?
Samsung 850 Pro 1 TB SSD?
Tuus-built T61: T8100 2.1 GHz, SXGA+, NVS140M, Patriot 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800, Samsung 840 120GB; Thinkpad T30: P4M 1.8 GHz, HYNIX 512 MB PC2700S DDR, Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 100GB; SilverStone Raven RVS01; 97 Volvo 850-R, 85 Mitsubishi Starion-ES, Keilwerth SX-90R, Ensoniq TS-12, Kawai EP-608

I've had a 1TB version die on me as in completely disappear on reboot, but that was with the older firmware than what's out there now. My preferred choice would still be SanDisk Extreme Pro.

Your $$$, your call.

Happy upgrading.

Yes. There is a limit. The system can adress only up to 1.84467441×10^10 GB of data.

So i think you are safe, no matter what SSD you can afford
Thinkpad W500 (2.53 GHz P8700, 4 GB RAM, FireGL V5700, WUXGA)
Thinkpad T61F 14" (2.53 GHz QX9300, 6 GB RAM, Quadro FX570m 256 MB, SXGA). Advanced dock with AMD Radeon HD7750
Custom build ITX desktop (i5 4590, 8GB RAM, AMD R7 260X, custom watercooling)
Thinkpad 8, Fujitsu F-07C

FS: T61F

Exactly, 500 GB and 1 TB capacity SSD(s) are expensive. Before I spend that kind of money, I want to make sure that I've listened to everyone's thoughts.

It was my belief, that SAMSUNG 840/850 PRO (not EVO) was almost everyone's preferred choice. Currently, I am using 120 GB SAMSUNG 840 PRO(s) in all my Tuus-built T61 machines.

Unless someone else speaks up, I'll purchase the SanDisk Extreme Pro.

In case anyone is asking... "Why would you need so much storage?"

I am in the process of building a machine for making digitally recordings of my musical accompaniments for clarinet and alto saxophone.

Ableton Live - to make arrangements

Native Instruments Komplete 10 - to manage instrument sound library (expecting to eventually require over 440 GB)

Avid Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase, or ProSonus Studio One - to make digital recordings. I haven't arrived at a decision on any of these.

If this is 'only' for storing lots of data, why not look into an Enterprise HHD, such as http://www.ebay.com/itm/121798837025
2TB for ca. $350, a lot cheaper than SSD.
