issues with new LG Philips SXGA+ Flexview LCD

#1 Post by tpdude4 » Wed May 04, 2016 3:57 pm

(To the Mods: Not sure if this belongs in the T60/p sticky LCD thread -- please move it if needed.)
I recently bought a new/unused LG-Philips 15" LCD (LP150E05-A2K1) for my T60 but am noticing some minor imperfections in the display. The main issue is a slight (but unfortunately noticeable) reddish tint that's limited to the lower left quadrant. I know this type of thing is usually a sign of aging, but since this is a (confirmed) NOS screen, I'm puzzled about what's causing this. I also notice a very slight greenish tint along the upper middle part of the display.

Any idea what the cause/resolution might be? E.g. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with the inverter or lcd cable -- though I didn't have the same issues in the last screen I used on this machine. (Could it be happening simply because this new screen was presumably sitting unused for so many years??)
Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated...Thanks!

The screen sounds defective and is probably not worth the time to try to debug the problem. I would contact the seller and ask for a replacement.

I have the very same LCD with a similar problem.
New screen, been in a box with some other screens (all standing up) for several years.
When put in a 15" T60 everything works, EXCEPT there's an area in the middle that shows green "ghosting".
You don't see it on a white background, only on a dark one.
Swapped various LCD-cables and inverters, even the mobo, no change.
So it's obviously a screen problem.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thanks brchan and RBS -- it's at least some consolation to know that it's almost certainly a screen problem and not something broader.
...Why, oh why, did Lenovo have to sheepishly drink the non-IPS/widescreen kool-aid like everyone else!! Imagine how much more enjoyable computing life would be if we still had 15" 4:3 screens available that were reasonably priced, under warranty, and *newly manufactured* (as opposed to NOS)....One can only hope some sensible manufacturer in the future "recycles" this idea, much like how 80s and 90s tv shows are being brought back....Slim chance of course, but one can dream. :)
