I've been paying a techie to execute a T601F Frankenpad project for me because I feel the assembly is a bit beyond me and my lousy eyesight. I have a question, however: Is it necessary to cut off the piece of the frame that extends toward the front of the machine under the WiFi card, with two eyelets extending toward the left to receive the forward modem screw, and forward of that, the upper right screw from the T60 heatsink pressure plate? Does leaving this extension of the frame intact cause short circuiting against the T61 motherboard? If so, is it possible to just insulate it? I don't feel the heatsink clamp can function properly without the screw supporting it on the upper right to create even pressure; in fact I've had experience with a T60P where that particular screw hole in the frame got stripped and there were overheating problems until this was rectified (slightly longer screw from the side of the LCD panel frame holds nicely).

What was suggested in that post was all-explaining.
Minimalist mobo job:
- remove the modem-socket (bending it left/right a few times is usually enough to pull it off)
- file/dremel that one stand-off and put electrician's tape on the mobo under that stand-off.
- you're done

I have done close to a hundred FrankenPads, so plenty of experience.
