T60p FrankenPad - should I get one?

I use GNU/Linux (Fedora) and will be starting college next year. I would like this laptop that will last me for at the very least two years. I do web browsing and coding and that is about it. My budget is $1000 and am willing to pay for the best T60p frankenpad, but I don't know whether college will demand more from my system. Majoring in Physics.
The reason I want it is very simple. 4:3 screen ratio, great build quality, linux friendly. Might have to install windows. I had a T60p around 1 month ago and it was not slow at all. I loved it, but I wasn't sure how long it would last so...
I heard TuuS offers great T60p frankenpad kits but once again, want to know if it is worth it.
