The machine is running XP. I use it basically for nothing other than to wake up, make a recording of sound from a USB soundcard and then go to sleep.

I think the problem is probably involved with the machine's problems that happen once in a while evidenced by not being able to go into SUSPEND after X minutes of inactivity (I have it so configured).

What can I do to prevent this? The only thing I've been able to identify is to uninstall the Lenovo Power Manager and then reinstall it. Of course, that's PITA. Even after doing that, I get the same message. Surely there must be something to work out this conundrum! Thanks for help.

I installed ver 5.05 on my T60p and it fixed the problem.

Thanks. I will try that. The worst of it is that the machine will function fine for periods of weeks, go to sleep and wake up when it needs to do a recording and then go back to sleep. Then it will suddenly stop going back to sleep and I have had to uninstall the Power Manager and reinstall it, reboot, a real PITA. I'll install 5.05 if possible and see how it goes.

I don't see where I can determine what version of Power Manager I have running now. Can I assume that I can keep my current Power Management Driver?

Edit: I assume this is PWMUI.EXE. The version I have is evidently 1.0.0.0. I'm going to uninstall that, reboot and run the file I just downloaded (from your link), g6u702ww.exe. I'm not sure I believe I'm running 1.0.0.0. The install file I used just a few days ago is ghu704ww.exe.

Actually, that link is to Lenovo Power Manager 5.5.0.0. Did you mean that? You said 5.05

Nope, I meant 5.05. This is what I was pointing to (quoted from the post that I pointed you to):

The second link is the associated "read me" file, which says version 5.05 rev 04. It tells how to determine what version you have installed. Quoted here:

DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED

1. Start Power Manager. The main screen will be displayed.
2. Click '?' mark at the top right of the main screen, and select the 'About
Power Manager...' . The version will be displayed.


Don't know what file explicitly says 5.05 - they all seem to be 1.0.0.0. But "About" says 5.05

OK, I'll check it out when I have time. I DLed the file your link pointed to, installed it, the machine will not go to sleep after X minutes. Will try to find and DL the right file. Thanks.

I just checked and the T60 is indeed running 5.05 now. However, it doesn't go to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity when using AC (it has the same setting on battery, but the battery isn't installed). The machine is fitted into a minidock. Usually it does go to sleep automatically. Don't know why it isn't now. I did not uninstall/reinstall the Power Management Driver when uninstalling the Power Manager and then installing version 5.05. I'll try a reboot now. Yesterday I tried setting the period to 10 minutes and then back to 5 minutes hoping a registry setting would be corrected. It didn't help. I'll try a reboot now, don't know what else to try.

I haven't seen the PwrMgrBkGndMonitor error, but the machine isn't going to sleep like a good little machine...

After re-reading your original post, I'm thinking that your non-sleep issue is not related to the PwrMgrBkgnd Monitor error, which in my experience only occurred when booting, and was fixed by the 5.05 driver.

I had a non-sleep issue when I first got my T60p and was testing the Hibernate & standby (sleep) functions, and, according to my notes, got a message that the modem was preventing it. The fix was to go into device manager/modem/properties, and on the power management tab uncheck "allow device to bring computer out of standby". Mine was missing the power management tab, but updating the modem driver fixed that. "Wake on Lan" could also do it.

Thanks for this, I was just looking around for images of the entire HD in the T60, thinking I could restore one of those and regain the standby-after-X-minutes functionality. The crazy thing is it works for a while and then suddenly doesn't. I've got it working again several times, this time I haven't yet, but I'll try the things you indicate.

Point of confusion for me: You mention "was fixed by the 5.05 driver." 5.05 (g6u702ww.exe) is a version of Power Manager, right? Isn't the Power Management Driver something separate? In an attempt to get standby-after-X-minutes functionality working yesterday I tried reinstalling the Power Management Driver. I searched for the version for WinXP and downloaded and installed gtku09ww.exe (which is version 1.67.04.05). Power Manager version 5.05 is g6u702ww.exe. After a reboot, I tested standby-after-X-minutes functionality and it still wasn't working. I'll try now the things you indicate. Thanks again!

Edit: Just unchecked the modem waking from standby option in Device Manager and am running a test to see if the machine will turn off after 5 minutes as it's setup to do. Should know in a few minutes and will post back here.

Yes, 5.05 is Power Manager. I tend to use "driver" as a catch-all.

Check your 'event viewer' for any possible clues to the no-sleep issue.

I checked yesterday, saw nothing.

Today, suddenly and without warning the machine did go to sleep according to the current setting. I don't remember doing anything that I thought would change the machine's rogue behavior, but it's evidently self-corrected.
