Yeah, dumb thing to do and I still don't know how I did it, but I lost one of the 4 screws you remove to get the palmrest off my T61. What's a good cheap source for a few of those screws? I did get an extra or two when I bought a door for the HD on one of my Thinkpads, but they're gone now. :?

I swear there is nothing you can't find on the internet.

I was composing a PM and went to measure one of the screws and took another stab at finding the missing one. Passed a big magnet over the carpet and voila! It picked it up in a heart beat! It's 15mm, but won't need it now! Thanks for the offer. :thumbs-UP:

OK Muse you deserve some razing for this. How the heck do you loose 4 screws? I mean 4 relatively big screws too? What did you do? Pop out the screw throw it against the wall and look for it later?

Just giving you a hard time. BTW, I wouldn't recommend working on any electronic equipment on or near carpet. If you have an old broken HDD around take it apart and salvage the magnet. Rub the magnet along any metal surface (such as a screw driver) and it will magnetize the screw driver. With a strong magnet like that the screws usually pops up when removed from the thread and sticks to the end of my screw driver.

OK, Cigarguy, I recommend you read more carefully. I didn't lose all 4 screws, just one. I have taken many large magnets out of HDs.

I always do use a magnet to pull the screws up and I'm well aware of magnetizing screwdrivers, mine usually are magnetized, but I have so many, I can't always tell.

OK, I know you were being friendly, don't doubt that.

Cheers,

Dan (AKA Muse!)

Have you tried Hemming's Motor News yet?

These aren't specified for hardtop or convertible. You've probably seen these already, but here ya go...

What color for the seat belt retracter covers? There's two sets (covers and belt) in brown on eBay for $100. There's also reproduction covers in black for $77 a pair that can be painted.

^^^ This is what I get for not checking back on this thread.

Those brown ones were what I am looking for but they got sold. They can all be dyed to match any color and I would just use my existing belts, but I was asleep at the switch.

I checked completed listings and it appears that every time a pair of these goes up, they get sold.

The black ones that OPGI sells are for 1669-70 which had a smaller buckle and are too small for 1965-68 front outboard belts. I know. I bought a pair and had to send them back, and I had two different 1969-70 Cadillacs way back. I also bought a seat belt buckle cover from OPGI to replace one that has lots of surface rust bubbling up the chrome. The replacement was not chrome plated and required considerable milling with a Dremel to get it to fit over the buckle. But it does look better than the rusty bubbled up one so I put it in. It's the middle seat buckle so it doesn't get much use and isn't as visible.

On the other hand I bought the pair of long rocker sill panels that were so dulled out on my car. They went in perfectly and look great.

How's this for dropping stuff:

I was changing the plugs (with dual platinum tipped AC ones) in the car and I managed to drop the one for # 5 into the "abyss", that is the place where it it goes behind several bolted in core supports, under the battery, splash guards, radiator supports and bumper brackets, etc.

Took me almost an hour to get that little sob out of there.

I get Hemmings every few months and go through it. Some of those guys will Never get on the internet, so it is still viable.
