Looking for a decent card that will fit.. dont mind if i need a half to full size adapter.
Likewise is it possible and cost effective to fit one of these in a t61/x61....

I've tested 7260AC and was not impressed in the least. YMMV.
You really don't want a 3160, it's a 1x1 card and any serious N card will leave it in dust. Not to mention that the format that is pictured will not fit a T6x/X6x system.

With a modded BIOS (no Whitelist) you'd be more than happy with a Dual-Band Atheros AR9380 that can do 450Mbps.
If you have only 2 antenna wires, leave the middle card-connector empty.
Make sure you get a
Dual-Band like this:

The card I would choose is the Broadcom BCM94352HMB.
If you want 3-antennas wireless AC, and you are willing to install 3 new antennas manually, then take a look at BCM94360HMB.
Disclaimer: I haven't tested either cards myself, can't yet justify the price of card + price of router + international shipping just for AC speeds over regular N-300.

if you looked at close pictures for the BCM94360HMB on ebay, you will see that it uses new smaller antenna connectors, in fact, some ebay sellers are selling this card with new set of cables ready to be fitted in laptops.
