T61 won't wake from sleep (and beeps)
Hello,
My aunt's T61 got a bit of trouble getting up from sleep mode - it started beeping (one long beep - 3s stop - one long beep and so on...)
System is Win7 64bit. T8100, 4Gigs, nvs140m.
What may it be?

Re: T61 won't wake from sleep (and beeps)
One long, three short beeps typically indicates a memory problem. Remove the palm rest and reseat both DIMMs and try again; if there's no change remove one DIMM and try it in both memory slots. If the system boots both times, try the other memory chip in the same manner. If it works with both, reinstall them and try again. If it works with only one, or with both but in only one slot... then you've identified either a bad DIMM or a potentially faulty DIMM slot.

Does the machine behave normally when it's not put to sleep?

Re: T61 won't wake from sleep (and beeps)
Well, I generally advise against putting nVidia-based *61 systems - along with ATi-based A3x/T30/T4x machines - to sleep in the first place unless absolutely necessary. Turning the screen off and leaving the laptop running is my preferred approach.wujstefan wrote:ajkula: no other problems so far

Re: T61 won't wake from sleep (and beeps)
Yea I faced similar problems with my T60p couple of years ago, but it was like not going to sleep after closing the lid OR just turning off display after closing the lid OR BSOD after wake up OR no response to wake up.
Never got a beep though, and since this is some system hardware error indication I started worrying.
How come this machines have such problems?

Re: T61 won't wake from sleep (and beeps)
I don't want to scare you, but the last time I ran into this issue was with an X32 several years ago and its board died shortly thereafter. Hopefully that won't be the case with your aunt's T61.wujstefan wrote: Never got a beep though, and since this is some system hardware error indication I started worrying.
Lack of QC...my guess. nVidia-based systems are known to be moody on top of it.How come this machines have such problems?
