Lightscribe internal DVD burner upgrade for Thinkpads?

#1 Post by James1138 » Thu Sep 15, 2016 4:29 pm

Is it possible to swap the DVD burner for a internal Lightscribe DVD burner? I assume already that I will need Lightscribe software (already got) and maybe update BIOS.

You may be able to swap the bezel and other needed parts to make it fit, but a lot will depend on the ThinkPad you have, which you did not mention.

Since you posted at the T6x subforum, I'm going to assume that you have a T60 or T61.

The T60/61 series used the Ultrabay Slim, which has a different connector from standard PATA/IDE optical drives, as can be seen here. This makes it very difficult--if not impossible--to replace/upgrade with standard optical drives.
