What can be put into the WLAN card space of a T61?

#1 Post by ac12 » Tue Oct 04, 2016 3:57 pm

Beside the Intel Turbo Memory module, what else can be put into this space?

Nope. That won't work on a T61.

Other than Broadcom HD Decoder card there's really not much out there, if anything.

I have bought an adapter card with an USB port, and inserted the USB receiver from my wireless Logitech mouse.
The mouse receiver is now hidden, and impossible to damage or loose.

Another option is to install a USB flash drive, but it will have slow transfer speed (USB 2.0 limited).

The Broadcom HD decoder also only makes sense on Integrated T61s, because nVidia T61s have built in support for HD video decoding :) (said decoder is also good on any T60/p or Z60/Z61)

I have done this on many units. I dont remember a T61 but im thinking with the right BIOS it will.

interesting device

i thought i had seen it all and yet this exists

it would make sense if you have an ssd for the main sata drive but needed some supplementary slower secondary storage with all the downsides of an sd card

or you can use an ultrabay device?

That's true, and could be a useful addition for someone who is often, or always, in a strong signal area. But, it made me smile to think about doing that in my area since we must have something like this antenna http://pimages.solidsignal.com/CCS1843_zoom.gif to pick up a TV signal. I was just picturing myself trying to watch TV on a ThinkPad with it connected to that antenna.
Collection = T430 - T500 - R400 - X300 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - R61 (15" SXGA+) - T60 - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P

Turbo memory is a bit of a sham... you can probably use it for virtual RAM. It is almost completely useless to performance if your main drive is an SSD. Some people use it as a location for Windows to throw temporary files to decrease I/O on the SSD. It also increases POSTing time by at least 5 seconds. It does not increase Windows loading time in my experience with an HDD. I removed it from my T500.

Kasm and Neil-san:

May I ask what TV tuner models you have in mind? Perhaps some links to examples on Ebay or Amazon?

Thanks in advance.

Would the Broadcom HD decoder (somewhat) equalize the discrete vs integrated "graphics differential" ???[/i]"
Would the following (@Amazon) be compatible with my IntelGraphics T61:
BCM970015 Broadcom Video/Audio Hardware Decoder Accelerator Crystal HD PCI Express mini card Hardware Decoder for Apple TV 1080p :?: :?: :?:
Yes, but that price is outright insane.
