Building the ultimate T60p 4:3"

I have finished building the worlds fastest X22/X23 hybrid packing 1.13GHz of Pentium 3 power and a almost double the clock speed overclocked ATI Radeon as well as 640mb of ram and a 7200rpm HDD.

I am now in the making of the ultimate T60p.
The fastest 14" 4:3 gaming ThinkPad in history.
I want it to pack the fastest 1st gen C2D, 4GB low latency dual Channel memory, a Radeon series SSD as well as a highly overclocked custom driver powered FireGL GPU.
Goal will be to play the LATEST titles at a playable frame rate at minimum resolution.
And before you doubt my goals, my X22/X23 runs Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Call of Duty and GTA 3 all at 60FPS+ on 8MB video memory albeit lowest detail configuration.

I have just a few questions:
I red up a little bit on CPU compatibility.
Is the T7800 compatible with a T60p mobo? or is T7600 the end of the line?
Also: Are there any V5250 chips in 14.1" T60p's? Or only larger screen size?
Do V5250 boards fit in a 14.1" chassis?

I wouldn't call them rare but they are less common than earlier models with V5200. If you have a good shell, just locate a motherboard, throw it in and call it a day.

Since you just built an X22/X23 hybrid, why wouldn't you build a T60/61 hybrid (a.k.a Frankenpad) which will take you significantly farther in terms of raw performance?

Seconds dr_st - this covers up to 8Gb DDR2 + T9500 + SATA-II SSD + nvs140m / fx580m. I'm running mine nvs OCed 50% and it works like a charm. Not to mention my favourite games are the likes of Anno 1404 or Civilization 5.

If you're hunting for the best 14,1" 4:3 try getting T61p instead. Pretty rare, but powerful.

You can use a 15.0" T60p planar in a 14.1" T60p. Search for "reverse frankenpad" or "swabenpad", except this is easier, a simple drop-in replacement.

What's the point of reversepadding? I personally find nvs140m way more powerful than v5250, and I own both. My frankie is built after removing v5250 mobo from the chassis and installing a nvs140m mobo. Fantastic upgrade. The system runs WAY cooler. The cost is pretty the same and I can't find any reasonable arguments to use v5250 (or X1700) - and I'm a CAD designer and like to play a game or two

As for the "fastest gaming-oriented 4:3 thinkpad" I don't think any T60p modified in any way would outrun unit mentioned by Johan

When one constructs a T61/T60 hybrid from two laptops, instead of discarding the complement you construct another laptop which, while inferior to the primary, is still suitable for some purposes and to some people. Conservation of mass - 2 laptops in, 2 laptops out.

FYI: there are no specific 14.1" or 15" mobos for Standard 4:3 T60/p machines.
Both sizes use the same mobos, the only difference: the 15" models have an additional interposer with FRU 41W1130.

It is the same board, but the OP wants a V5250, as opposed to the V5200, which he can can only source in a 15.0" T60p.
Whether in fact there is any difference in the chips or their implementation is another matter.

Yes I agree with you on that. A Core2 Duo machine in my neighborhood can still be sold at around $150 if they are not broken in any way and if you get Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 sorted out on that machine

There's also the environmental perspective -- the surplus components don't end up as landfill, which might impede your avid digging.

Also that's why I am also trying to put a T43 motherboard (the hiccup is it cannot boot from primary hdd but Ultrabay HDD works fine) in T41p that had the mb water damaged, replace it back with a working T43 motherboard from my 15" T43 and put a T43p motherboard in that 15" unit
