T61 fingerprint reader palmrest- bezel swap

Hi everyone.

I'm setting up a T61 15" WS for my grand nieces and it has the fingerprint reader under the palmrest. They don't need it, so I'd like to swap it with the palmrest on my wife's T61 15"WS, which doesn't have one. Not that she uses it much, but I prefer to not have something that my nieces (or their dad) will mess up and lock the machine up so that I have to re-do the entire system.

To me it appears that merely swapping the palmrests moves the reader to the other system. Is that correct? It doesn't look like there is anything on the system board that needs to be moved.

Of course I'll have to use windoze to "remove / uninstall" the reader on the one system and the other one should pick it up automatically and eventually find the drivers.

You could also just remove the (flat) cable from the bottom of the FPR-circuit, takes all of 10 seconds.
After that, the FPR disappears from BIOS and you don't even have to uninstall anything.
If needed, you can reconnect it again.

Thanks, RBS. The new machine picked it up in a couple minutes.

Of course since she hasn't used it in a couple months there are dozen of windoze updates to install.....

You may want to use Lenovo bundle for installing the FPR.

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029964 (XP Vista)
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029766 (8 & 7 32 bit)
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029769 (8 & 7 64 bit)

Don't get the one for T500,T400,R400,etc..

Recently did this with my two T61s, and it worked just fine.
I'm moving the best stuff to one of the T61s, and upgrading it as much as I can, to be my primary T61.
